APPG (All-Party Parliamentary Group) on Youth Affairs
On 14 July, we accompanied our Youth Ambassador, Abdullahi, to the APPG (All-Party Parliamentary Group) on Youth Affairs, to an event hosted by Chair of the APPG Natasha Irons MP where the focus of discussion was on how social media affects young people’s mental health.
The session included a wide range of young people from across the UK, including mental health charities such as Off the Record, Croydon Drop-In and Catch22. Speakers shared current research and insights into youth social media use, helping to build a broader understanding of the issue. All the young people spoke with passion and clarity about the urgent need for Government to include their voices in helping to shape the policies and services that affect their lives.
The Impact of Cyberbullying
Our Youth Ambassador, Abdullahi, gave a strong speech about the impact of cyberbullying and spoke about the importance of involving young people in managing social media platforms. They also highlighted the role of schools and families in supporting young people online. Abdullahi did a great job representing Off the Record, introducing our mental health work for young people, and engaging with others throughout the meeting.
Some of the key points raised by young people included:
