As we approach Mental Health Awareness Week (12 – 18 May 2025), it's important to recognise that life can sometimes be challenging, and managing everything on your own can feel overwhelming.

During these times, you might experience a range of emotions such as sadness, fear, hopelessness, or anger. It's common to keep these feelings bottled up inside, but doing so can often make things worse. Remember, it's okay to ask for help, and with the right support, you can find your own path to feeling better.

Tips for Managing Mental Health

  • Talk About Your Feelings: Talking about your feelings and thoughts with someone you trust can be a relief. You may wish to talk with a friend, family member, teacher, or trained listener - opening up can help you feel less alone.
  • Stay Active: Exercise is a great way to boost your mood and help reduce stress. Find an activity you enjoy, whether it's dancing, walking, playing sports, or even just stretching.
  • Eat Well: A balanced diet can have a positive impact on mental health. A variety of foods, such as fruits and vegetables through to whole grains can help. Try to avoid excessive sugar and caffeine.
  • Get Enough Sleep: Sleep is crucial for your mental well-being. Aim for 8-10 hours of sleep each night and establish a relaxing bedtime routine.
  • Take Breaks: It's important to take regular breaks from studying or work. Spend time doing something you enjoy, like reading, listening to music, or spending time outdoors.
  • Practice Mindfulness: Deep breathing, meditation, or yoga can help you stay grounded and manage stress.
