Celebrating Community as a Superpower
This Refugee Week, from 16th to 22nd June, we’re proud to stand in solidarity with young refugees, asylum seekers, and forced migrants. The theme this year, "Community as a Superpower," resonates deeply with the work we do every day, creating spaces of healing, connection, and hope for young people navigating some of life’s toughest challenges.
What Does Community Mean to Us?
Community isn’t just a word, it’s a lifeline. It’s the quiet strength in a shared smile, the comfort of being heard, and the joy of feeling seen. For the young people we support, many of whom have experienced trauma, loss, and displacement, community becomes a powerful force for rebuilding trust and rediscovering joy.
At our core, we believe in Brilliant, Beautiful and Better mental health for young people. That means offering more than just support, it means creating a sense of belonging, where every young person feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
Trim n Grin
As part of Refugee Week, we’re hosting a Trim n Grin session on 19th June at Queens Rd, offering free haircuts and conversations. It’s a simple idea with a big impact. A fresh trim can boost confidence, and a friendly chat can open the door to healing.
This event is more than just a haircut, it’s a moment to connect and to listen. It’s a celebration of identity, culture, and the small acts of kindness that make our community extraordinary.
Supporting Young People’s Sleep Hygiene
Sleep plays a vital role in young people’s mental health. Practicing good sleep hygiene, such as keeping a regular bedtime, limiting screen time before bed, and creating a calm sleep environment, can significantly improve mood, focus, and emotional resilience. As part of Refugee Week, we’ll be giving out special gift bags to our young clients, with items and tips to support better sleep. Because a good night’s rest is a powerful step toward wellbeing.
Why This Matters
The journey of a young refugee is often marked by uncertainty and isolation. Many of the young people we support face challenges like anxiety, trauma, and loneliness. Our service offers a safe, confidential space where they can begin to process their experiences and build a brighter future.
We work with young people aged 11–25, offering tailored mental health support in a way that respects their language, culture, and individual needs. Whether it’s through one-on-one sessions, group activities, or community events like Trim n Grin, we’re here to walk alongside you every step of the way.
Join Us in Celebrating Community
This Refugee Week, we invite you to reflect on the power of community in your own life. How can we show up for one another?
Let’s celebrate the everyday heroes, the barbers who offer a listening ear, the volunteers who give their time, and the young people who show incredible resilience and courage.
